Southern Europe

‘Santorini which is well-known for its beaches in the world offers magnificent sights to the tourists all over the world. If you are in Greece and you haven’t visited the Red Beach of Santorini then you have missed a very precious and memorable site’ this sentence always strikes in my mind as people say it again and again. So one fine day, I planned a family trip to this alienated place. Yes I surfed some in internet to get the reason why people advice me to visit Santorini. I really love to travel and explore various places but was not that enthusiast as my family members was. I thought people say many things but when we see by our eyes we usually think that why the hell I am here. And seriously, everything proved wrong. When we started moving ahead, the city was explaining its amazements one by one and was revealing its secret attractions.

And there we are. Straight to the site where we have planned to visit. An island which is not that famous as it is known for its beaches. Santorini island! This island was actually born in the age of Bronze from the powerful blow of nature. A well-known holiday destination on a cluster of volcanic islands has started attracting my attentions. There are some beautiful and popular beaches in this island which we planned to explore one by one and that includes Kamari Beach Santorini black, Perissa Santorini black Beach, Akrotiri Red Beach in Santorini and Monolithos beach.

Out of this we first visited the Red Beach which is among the well-known and fine beaches of Santorini and lies close to the ancient site of Akrotiri. Just we stepped from the archaeological site of Akrotiri we experienced a wonderful site which is hard to believe a fact. As if I was in some dreams. The Akrotiri is located in Kokkini Ammos. What made me feel great to this site is not only the black sand and blue water but the impressive red lava cliffs that was dipping to the sea and are enclosed the beach. And I felt that oh! This is the reason why its name has been given as red, for its renowned sparkling red sands.

We reached to this site by hiring a car but one can easily reach here by foot as well. The beach is at a distance of some 500 metres at the south of Akrotiri. Food and drinks are available close to the beach so we just chilled out there and relaxed for few hours. I was continuously looking at this god gifted attraction, trying to grab all of the pleasant views to my eyes forever while resting on a seat. Having fun with my family I was enjoying the sunny climate by sipping the famous wine of Santorini and this truly made our day even more special. We went there during summers in the month of July and the temperatures in summer ranges from 30 Degree Celsius during day to 22 Degree Celsius during night. This place enjoys mild winters with little rainfall which can be expected in between the months of October and April.

After enjoying this site we went to ahead by boat from the beach to visit the other beaches of the area. If we see this island’s economy we will realize that it is entirely depending on tourism, wine, tomato exports, export and nuts over the volcanic soil for the cement industry. This Santorini island offers inspiring sight, stunning beaches, white villages, brilliant sunset and the rocks of the volcanoes what we have experienced while traveling. This magnificent place offers all the facilities as per our budget. But for accommodation there are no easy luxury hotels, resorts, apartments and villas. We took a regular flight from Athens to Santorini and the distance is of 30 minutes.

Outside the airport we took a taxi directly to the spot. There are buses as well to reach Fira then to the destination wherever a person wants to go. We thought this will be the better option of wasting little money and explore the Santorini island at once. But I can’t resist by saying that it is simply an unforgettable and unique place in the Earth. My seven days was a real adventure that I lived with my family.
